Biden Mocks Trump Mugshot: ‘Handsome Guy’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US President Joe Biden poked fun Friday at former president Donald Trump’s unprecedented mugshot, released Thursday evening after he was booked at an Atlanta jail.

“I did see it on television,” a smiling Biden told reporters after emerging from a Pilates class in South Lake Tahoe, Calif, adding: “Handsome guy, wonderful guy.”

The 80-year-old president is vacationing at billionaire Tom Steyer’s lakefront mansion and also commented on the first Republican primary debate Wednesday night, The New York Post reported.

“I don’t remember them speaking to any of the issues. I mean there was a lot of talk, but what are they going to do to deal with economic growth?” said Biden, whose own handling of the economy was criticized heavily at the debate.

Trump, who is seeking a rematch against Biden in next year’s election, became the first US president subjected to a mugshot when he surrendered at the Fulton County Jail to face charges linked to his efforts to reverse Biden’s narrow 2020 win in Georgia.

The former president has sought to use the mugshot to advance his campaign.

He posted for the first time since January 2021 on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, blasting out the image and the caption, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE NEVER SURRENDER!”

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s onetime personal lawyer, and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows also posed for mugshots, along with 16 other co-defendants.

The case is being brought by elected Democratic District Attorney Fani Willis, who alleges that the group formed an illegal conspiracy to overturn the results of Georgia’s election.

It was Trump’s fourth arrest this year, but the first to require a mugshot.

Trump also faces two federal cases brought by special counsel Jack Smith — one related to his attempts to reverse his election loss, and the other over his alleged mishandling of classified records after leaving office — and a case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over 2016 hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
