Iran to Start 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualification on Saturday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will meet the Maldives in the opening match of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Thailand 2024 Qualifiers.

The match is scheduled for Saturday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Eight groups – six of four teams and two comprising three – will be played in a single round-robin format over three matchdays between October 7 and 13 at centralized venues to determine the final cast for the 17th edition of the tournament, set to be staged in Thailand from April 17 to 28, 2024.

Team Melli will also meet Kyrgyzstan and Lebanon on October 9 and 11, respectively.

This will be the 10th time that Qualifiers – starting from 2006 – are being held for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup, which was known as the AFC Futsal Championship from 1999 to 2020.

Japan is the reigning champion, having won its fourth crown after defeating 12-time winner Iran in 2022; both teams, along with Uzbekistan and Thailand, are the only four sides to have taken part in each of the previous 16 editions.
