Iran Urges China to Use Clout to Stop Israeli Onslaught on Gaza
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran called on China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to employ its political capacities to end the Zionist regime’s brutal attacks on the people of Gaza.
In a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yee on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian denounced the brutal crimes of the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza.
He said the situation is highly critical in the region and the top priority now is to put an end to the Zionist regime's crimes and attacks on women, children and civilians in Palestine.
Amirabdollahian also deplored the shocking death toll and the high number of injuries as a result of attacks by the Zionist regime on homes and residential buildings and even medical centers of Gaza as well as Tel Aviv's use of banned weapons including reports of dropping phosphorous bombs, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Such Israeli crimes are gross examples of war crimes and mass killing of Gazans, he added.
Pointing to his regional tour and his meetings with the high-ranking officials of countries and leaders of some resistance groups in the region, the Iranian foreign minister said the situation is highly dangerous and worrying and things could spiral out of control any moment.
Amirabdollahian added that if the Zionists do not stop their crimes and criminal attacks on the people of Gaza, no one can guarantee that the war will not spread across the region.
He reminded the UN Security Council of its responsibility regarding international peace and security, calling on China to use its capacities to stop the Zionist regime's attacks on the people of Gaza.
Wang Yee, for his part, voiced concern about the critical situation in Gaza. He said the international community must push back against attacks on civilians and the Security Council must also assume its responsibility in this regard and play its inherent role.
The Chinese foreign minister described the collective punishment of the people of Gaza as unacceptable and underlined the need for creating a humanitarian corridor in the enclave.
The Israeli regime has been pounding the Gaza Strip for ten days. More than 2,670 people have been killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza with over 9,600 wounded.
