Tehran, Havana Agree to Strengthen Agricultural Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian and Cuban ministers of agriculture emphasized the need for enhancing cooperation in the field of agriculture.

The Cuban minister of agriculture, who is accompanying the Central American country’s president in an official visit to Tehran, met with Iranian Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Ali Nikbakht to discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.

The two sides stressed the need to broaden mutual cooperation in the field of agriculture.

Nikbakht pointed to the capabilities and potentials of Iran in the agricultural sector and said farming shrimps at beaches, raising warm- and cold-water fish, and producing agricultural and horticultural products such as pistachios, dates and types of citrus fruits are among the strengths of Iran’s agriculture.

In the field of animal husbandry, Iran’s minister of agriculture said, “all our needs are provided inside the country and we export dairies to other countries.”

The Cuban minister of agriculture, for his part, pointed to the significance of cooperation between Tehran and Havana in all fields and emphasized that political and revolutionary commonalities between the two countries have paved the way for promoting cooperation in all fields, especially in agriculture.

Cuba needs Iran’s fruitful experiences in developing agriculture and attaining the technology of producing agricultural products, he said, adding that Cuba is ready to back Iranian investors for producing agricultural and horticultural products in Cuba.
