Nicaragua Takes Germany to ICJ over Aiding Israel in Gaza War

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nicaragua has filed a case against Germany at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of providing financial and military support to Israel during its war on Gaza, according to an announcement by the ICJ on Friday.

The ICJ announced on Friday that Nicaragua had submitted an “application instituting proceedings” and had requested emergency measures, citing Germany’s alleged violations of its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the laws of war, particularly in relation to the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip.

According to the ICJ, Nicaragua’s submission to the court asserts that “Germany is facilitating the commission of genocide and, in any case, has failed in its obligations to do everything possible to prevent the commission of genocide.”

The German Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the case in response to a request for comment from Reuters.

Typically, the ICJ schedules a hearing on any requested emergency measures within weeks of receiving a case.
