Iran, Turkey Discuss Resumption of Rail Service

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey weighed plans to resume the passenger and cargo rail service between the two neighbors.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan held talks on the sidelines of an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah on Tuesday.

Amirabdollahian underscored the crucial responsibility of the two foreign ministries in executing the agreements made during the Iranian president’s most recent visit to Ankara.

Calling for efforts to facilitate the journey of trucks to enhance commercial cooperation between the two states, he voiced Iran’s readiness to resume passenger and cargo rail service with Turkey.

Highlighting the two countries’ shared perspective on combating terrorism, Amirabdollahian stressed the importance of constant cooperation in this field.

The top Iranian diplomat also expressed deep concern about the situation in Palestine and the Gaza Strip, outlining Tehran’s stance on the matter.

Fidan, for his part, hailed the outcomes of the Iranian president’s visit to Ankara.

Referring to the deep and friendly relations between the two countries, Fidan considered enhancing relations with Iran across all sectors as a key priority for Turkey.

He also underscored the significance of restarting rail transport cooperation and fostering people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Fidan also welcomed stronger cooperation between the two countries in the international forums.
