TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director of the Iran Electricity Grid Management Company for monitoring the electricity market said the country’s cooperation with the BRICS group of emerging economies can lead to the development of the energy sector.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Energy Committee of the BRICS countries in Russia, Iman Rahmati pointed out that BRICS was founded in 2005 by four countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, and then South Africa joined the club in 2010.

Recently, other countries including Iran, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia have joined the club, he said, adding that there are other countries in the world willing to be part of the group.

He went on to say that various topics in the fields of banking, agriculture, transport, health, food security and energy have so far been put on the agenda of the group.

Given Iran’s outstanding status in the field of energy in the national and international arenas, the country’s membership in BRICS can facilitate growth and promote the situation of the country in the energy sector, Rahmati underlined, IRNA reported.

Undoubtedly, taking advantage of the experiences of the BRICS countries will bring about many benefits for the country, and this issue can help develop the various projects, he stressed.
