Iran Admires Turkey for Halting Trade with Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister applauded Turkey’s decision to halt all import and export transactions with the Israeli regime in protest over the brutal war on Gaza.

In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart on the sidelines of an OIC summit in the Gambia on Saturday, Hossein Amirabdollahian praised the Ankara government’s recent decision to halt economic and trade ties with the Zionist regime as a “significant measure”.

Condemning the Israeli regime’s war crimes in Gaza, the top Iranian diplomat stressed the need for a stronger and more active role by the Islamic countries, specifically Iran and Turkey, in supporting Palestine.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the issue of Palestine as the Muslim world’s overriding priority.

He also agreed that the OIC members should push actively to support Palestinians.

Highlighting the importance that Turkey attaches to the promotion of relations with Iran, Fidan welcomed closer cooperation between the two neighbors in the regional and international organizations.

The two senior diplomats further weighed plans to end the brutal Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip.

At least 34,654 Palestinians have been killed and 77,908 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
