Israeli Official Heckled While Defending Bloodbath in Rafah at ICJ

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Israeli official was heckled at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) while defending the Israeli regime’s bloodletting in Rafah, a densely populated refugee city in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli legal adviser Tamar Kaplan Tourgeman urged the court on Friday to dismiss a case brought by South Africa, which calls for an end to Israel’s invasion of Rafah.

Approximately 1.5 million Palestinians have sought refuge in Rafah due to a genocidal war that has been raged by Israel since October 7 of the previous year.

Israel's brutal war, which began after a retaliatory operation by Gaza’s resistance movements, has resulted in the deaths of at least 35,303 Palestinians, primarily women and children.

"Israel requests the Court to reject the request for the modification and of provisional measures submitted by the Republic of South Africa," Tourgeman stated.

Her remarks were interrupted by a woman shouting “Liars! Liars!” in a rare protest within the Great Hall of Justice.

Security promptly escorted the protester out as Tourgeman turned to identify the source of the disruption.

The hearings are part of a case South Africa filed last December, accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention.

In January, the court ordered Israel to take steps to prevent genocide in Gaza but did not mandate a ceasefire.

Despite this, Israel has intensified its military operations and maintained a comprehensive siege on the coastal region.
