Africa Day Reminder of Solidarity: Iran’s Caretaker FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Caretaker Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Baqeri congratulated African people on the occasion of Africa Day, which he hailed as a reminder of solidarity and brotherhood.

“My congratulations on Africa Day, a reminder of solidarity, brotherhood and the establishment of the African Union (AU), a lasting legacy for future generations, to our friends across Africa,” Baqeri said in a post on his X account on May 25.

“I hope the union, considering its innumerous opportunities and capacities, will witness increasing growth, progress and prosperity and African nations will benefit from more achievements,” he added.

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world.

Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic, and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Iran's foreign policy.

In comments in January 2022, late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi denounced the objectives and interests that the Westerners pursue in Africa, expressing the Islamic Republic’s support for African nations’ independence, development and welfare.
