Speaking to reporters after a session of the Astana process on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2024 in Qatar on Saturday, Araqchi said he and his Russian and Turkish counterparts have held a “very good meeting” about Syria.

He noted that the foreign ministers of the three guarantor states of the Astana process were joined by UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen at the end of the meeting in Doha.

According to Araqchi, the ongoing developments in Syria were discussed in the meeting, with all participants sharing the view that “clashes must end immediately, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria must be respected, and the UN resolution must be referred to in this regard.”

He noted that the Astana format parties have emphasized that political negotiations between the government of Syria and the legitimate opposition groups must begin.

Araqchi also pointed to plans for Iran and Russia to hold consultations with the Syrian government.
