Deadly Vehicle Attack in Mannheim Leaves One Dead, Several Wounded

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A vehicle plowed into a crowd in the western German city of Mannheim on Monday, killing at least one person and leaving several others seriously injured, police said.

Authorities launched an operation in the area and urged the public to avoid the city center.

The incident occurred as crowds gathered across Germany for Carnival season parades. Witnesses reported that the vehicle struck pedestrians near one such event.

In a statement on social media, police confirmed that "a car drove into a group of people in Mannheim city center," adding that initial reports indicated "one person was killed and several people were injured."

"No information can be given yet on the number and severity of the injuries," police said. They added that a suspect was identified and arrested as part of immediate search measures but stressed there was no further "reliable" information available.

An eyewitness told Reuters they saw multiple people lying on the ground, including two individuals whom medics appeared to be attempting to resuscitate.

Local media, citing witnesses, reported that a black SUV was seen speeding from the area where a parade was taking place, striking people and leaving several seriously wounded.
