Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port Reports 3.9% Rise in Tanker Activity

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran has welcomed its first major bitumen tanker of the new Iranian year, as port officials report a 3.9% rise in tanker operations compared to the previous year.

The 183-meter-long tanker with a draft of 12.5 meters docked at the Persian Gulf Oil Port in early April, according to Hossein Abbasnejad, Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Hormozgan Province.

Abbasnejad said the vessel is scheduled to load 44,000 tons of bitumen from one of the port’s oil terminals.

“This is the first large oil tanker to berth at Shahid Rajaee Port this year,” he said.

The increase in activity reflects broader growth in tanker operations at the facility.

Abbasnejad noted that a total of 1,444 oil tankers conducted loading and unloading operations at Shahid Rajaee Port and the Persian Gulf Oil Port during the last Iranian year, which ended in March 2024.

That figure represents a 3.9% rise compared to the previous year.

Located within the Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone, the Persian Gulf Oil Port is Iran’s largest oil terminal under the management of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

Its strategic location along the North-South transit corridor and proximity to industrial and refinery centers boost its significance.

The port includes 12 berths and handles a wide range of petroleum products, such as gasoline, gas oil, fuel oil, bitumen, kerosene, furfural, and other oils.

In addition to oil products, the port also receives essential goods.

Since the start of the current Iranian year on March 20, 2025, two vessels carrying edible oil and barley have docked at the facility.
