Removal of Sanctions A Priority in Muscat Talks: Iranian Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated that an overriding objective that Iran would pursue in the fresh round of indirect talks with the US in Oman is the termination of sanctions.

In a post on his X account on Friday evening, Esmaeil Baqaei said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his accompanying delegation have visited Muscat for the third round of Iran-US talks to be mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

“We are resolved to secure our nation's legitimate and lawful right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes while taking reasonable steps to demonstrate that our program is entirely peaceful,” he said.

“Termination of unlawful and inhumane sanctions in an objective and speedy manner is a priority that we seek to achieve,” the spokesman stated.

“We'll see how serious and prepared is the other side to go for a fair and realistic deal,” Baqaei noted.

Iran and the US have held two rounds of talks in Oman and Italy in the past two weeks with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.
