Trump Suggests US Seize Gaza despite Global Rejection

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - US President Donald Trump on Thursday revived a widely criticized idea of placing the Gaza Strip under American control, branding it a so-called "freedom zone" without offering any concrete details --further provoking world outrage.

Speaking to reporters in Qatar, Trump claimed Gaza should become a “freedom zone” under US administration.

“I have concepts for Gaza that I think are very good,” he said.

“Make it a freedom zone, let the United States get involved... Have a real freedom zone,” he added.

Trump stated, “Every 10 years it happens, and more than that. It really happens all throughout. It never solved the Gaza problem.”

He continued, “If it’s necessary, I think I’d be proud to have the United States have it, take it, make it a freedom zone.”

Trump said people should be “put in homes where they can be safe,” and declared that “Hamas is going to have to be dealt with.”

The plan, first floated in February, has been dismissed by governments across the globe.

Despite international rejection, Trump has repeated the idea multiple times in recent months.

His latest version of the proposal --labeling it a “freedom zone”-- is new, though he failed to clarify what that would involve.

Trump’s remarks come amid mounting condemnation of US policy in the region, as critics accuse his administration of inflaming tensions and pushing imperialist agendas under the guise of humanitarian concern.
