Iran Shuts Door on IAEA Until Security of Nuclear Sites Guaranteed

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament enacted a law suspending all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, denouncing the agency’s complicity in facilitating hostile actions by the illegitimate Israeli regime and its Western allies against Iran’s peaceful nuclear infrastructure.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, announced the formal enactment of the law compelling the government to halt all cooperation with the IAEA.

"Today, following approval by the Constitutional Council, the law suspending cooperation with the IAEA has been officially communicated," Qalibaf stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

"Continued collaboration with an agency that acts as an enabler of war and aggression and serves as an executor of the inhumane interests of the illegitimate Zionist regime is impossible until we are assured of the full security of our nuclear facilities," he added.

The law, passed unanimously by all 221 lawmakers present, mandates the government to immediately suspend all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and its related safeguards upon the enactment of this law, until the following conditions are fulfilled.

According to the law, cooperation will remain suspended until Iran’s nuclear centers and scientists are fully secured in accordance with the UN Charter and as determined by the Supreme National Security Council.

The suspension will continue until Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear enrichment, as guaranteed under Article 4 of the NPT, is fully recognized and respected.

Verification of these conditions will be based on a report from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and require final approval from the Supreme National Security Council.

The law obligates the government to submit a compliance report every three months to Parliament and the Supreme Council.

Under an enforcement clause that was approved as a provision, any person or entity that obstructs or undermines the full execution of this law will be criminally prosecuted under Article 19 of the Islamic Penal Code and face penalties classified under Level 6 of the disciplinary framework.

Earlier today, the Constitutional Council spokesman Hadi Tahan Nazif confirmed the council's approval of the legislation, reiterating that the government is now legally bound to halt all collaboration with the IAEA until the conditions for full sovereignty and national security are met.
