Iran, IAEA to Hold Talks in Tehran Monday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency will be visiting Tehran on August 11 to hold talks with Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said, dismissing any plan for inspections.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet session on Sunday, Araqchi said Iran and the IAEA will hold negotiations on Monday as the IAEA deputy director general will be vising Tehran.

He also rejected any plan for the UN nuclear agency to inspect or visit Iran’s nuclear sites, adding that a new framework for cooperation has been already outlined.

Araqchi noted that Iran and the IAEA have not yet agreed on the new framework for cooperation, which he said has to comply with the Iranian Parliament’s bills.

Asked about the European troika’s attempts to trigger the snapback mechanism of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the foreign minister said Iran believes that the Europeans are no more parties to the JCPOA considering the stances they have adopted.

Contacts between Iran and the EU3 on the technical and legal issues are in progress, he added.

Asked about the conclusion of a US-brokered peace treaty between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the Zangezur corridor, the Iranian foreign minister said Iran welcomes any peace agreement between its two neighbors.

He stressed that Iran calls for the protection of sovereignty of the regional countries, saying Iran defends the territorial integrity of all states and would not accept any change in international boundaries.

The deputy foreign minister of Armenia will be visiting Iran for more consultations, Araqchi said.
