China Vows to Counter US Arms Sales to Taiwan, Touts Stability Role

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – China’s foreign minister positioned the country as a global anchor of stability while vowing to counter US arms sales to Taiwan.

Wang Yi condemned trade wars for disrupting the international order in a speech at an annual symposium, AFP reported.

“Facing a chaotic situation for world peace, China is an anchor of stability,” Wang said.

He did not single out Washington but stated that cooperation benefits both sides while confrontation harms both.

Wang warned the United States against interfering with Beijing’s core national interests.

He specifically addressed a recent USD 11 billion US arms package approved for Taiwan.

“In response to the continuous provocations by pro-independence forces in Taiwan and the large-scale US arms sales to Taiwan, we must… resolutely oppose and forcefully counter them,” Wang said.

His comments followed an announcement by China’s military of live-fire drills off Taiwan’s coast.

China claims the island as part of its territory and has not renounced the use of force.

Wang asserted that any attempt to obstruct China’s unification “will inevitably end in failure”.

He also highlighted President Xi Jinping’s diplomatic outreach to Southeast Asia and Russia.

Wang praised China’s mediation roles in conflicts in northern Myanmar and between India and Pakistan.

The minister welcomed international support for a Gaza ceasefire but said “the world still owes Palestine a fair path” to sovereignty.
