Trump made the remarks on Thursday, stating that the United States would take action regarding Greenland, regardless of the Danish government's preference. "We’re going to do something about Greenland," Trump told reporters. "Whether they like it or not."
He added that if a deal could not be reached easily, a "difficult" approach would be pursued, potentially a "good and beautiful" one or a more challenging one. "We will do it, and it will be done well," Trump asserted.
Separately, Greenland and Denmark diplomats met with White House officials last Thursday and reaffirmed that the territory is not for sale.
CNN reported that Trump’s comments represent a hardening stance on the Greenland issue.
