Iran Renews Call for Concerted Action against Extremism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign minister once again warned against the regional problems bred by extremist and terrorist moves, and underlined that Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) should forge stronger partnership to counter those threats.

“We believe that more high-level cooperation must take place between us and the UAE in the Persian Gulf,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a meeting with Emirati Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al-Maktum in Dubai on Tuesday.

“Today, our region is suffering from extremism, sectarianism and terrorism and it would be in the interest of everyone to stop this trend,” the Iranian minister reiterated.

Zarif, who has travelled to the Persian Gulf state to attend the 2nd meeting of Iran-UAE High Joint Economic Commission, also pointed to the course of talks between Iran and the six major world powers over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

He made clear that an ultimate deal on Iran’s nuclear case would be beneficial for the entire region.

The Emirati premier, for his part, announced that a final resolution of the West’s decade-long standoff on Tehran’s nuclear program will definitely benefit the whole regional countries.

This comes after delegates representing Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) wrapped up the latest round of their nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna on April 9.

The two sides are slated to convene the next meeting on May 13, again in Vienna, to start drafting the text of a final, long-awaited deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
