Leader’s Adviser Stresses Continuation of Islamic Awakening Movement

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution underlined the necessity to safeguard the Islamic Awakening movement underway in the region.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday evening, Ali Akbar Velayati, who also serves as Secretary General of the Islamic Awakening Assembly, said the Islamic Awakening movement should be maintained until the realization of its objectives and the participation of the Islamic Ummah in the global power structure.

He referred to the unique characteristics of the Islamic Awakening movement and said the movement, which is "popular, Islamic, anti-arrogance, and anti-Zionism", has altered the Western-defined equations dominating the international arena.

Velayati also described the influential role of Muslim societies, particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran, in the international equations as "undeniable".

He further pointed to the issues discussed in the meeting of the Supreme Council of Islamic Awakening in Tehran, and said the participants in the meeting underlined, among other things, the need for introducing the strengths of the Islamic Awakening movement, organizing expert meetings, and continuing the scientific activities.

More than 50 leading figures and influential personalities in the Islamic Awakening movement from various countries attended the gathering.

The participants exchanged views on the latest developments in the Islamic Awakening movement and the steps required to be taken.

Over the past few years, Iran has hosted several international conferences on the Islamic Awakening including “Islamic Awakening and Youth,” “Women and the Islamic Awakening” and “Muslim University Professors and Islamic Awakening”.

The Islamic Awakening movement, which started in 2011 in Tunisia, has swept into several other countries in the Middle East and North Africa including Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain and Yemen.
