Iranian Commander Blasts Israel’s Gaza Offensive

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A high-ranking Iranian military officer on Monday deplored Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip as a “catastrophe”, and said that the atrocities are being committed with Washington’s brazen support.

Speaking in a conference in Tehran on Monday morning, Army Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi blamed Israel for the “distressing and astonishing catastrophe” in Gaza.

He said the Israeli crimes in Palestine, which are being supported by the US, is another shameful record in the Tel Aviv regime’s history.

The commander also noted that such Israeli brutal attacks are not new and will probably happen again in the future, and contended that “force and being powerful are among the first necessities in life.”

Israel’s all-out military offensive against Gaza has entered its 28th day. More than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed and over 9,000 others have been injured in the besieged enclave.

Amid an escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has in recent weeks highlighted the necessity for supporting Palestinian resistance groups in their fight with the Israeli regime.

On July 29, Imam Khamenei called the whole world and the Islamic world in particular to arm the Palestinian nation as much as possible.

Imam Khamenei also warned that the US emphasis on the need for stripping the anti-Israeli resistance of weapons was aimed at depriving the Palestinian nation from their limited possibility for defense.

The Leader had earlier described the armed resistance as the only way to confront the “destructive regime” of Israel.
