Iran’s Zarif, US’s Kerry Hold 2nd Meeting in Munich

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry met this morning for the second time in three days in the German city of Munich for talks on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The bilateral meeting, held on the sidelines of the 51st Munich Security Conference, was part of efforts to narrow down the differences in the course of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

They had talks before on Friday for some two hours in a meeting attended by experts from the two countries.

According to AP, a US official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Kerry had voiced the US administration's desire to reach the outline of a nuclear deal by the end of March.

Kerry told Zarif in the Friday meeting that Washington wants to meet the March target for the "political framework" of a final agreement to be done by summer, the official noted.

Later on Sunday, Zarif is scheduled to attend a roundtable discussion on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

He will also have a bilateral meeting with French Foreign Minister Lauren Fabius today.

While scores of foreign and defense ministers have gathered in Munich for the annual security conference, Zarif is engaged in active diplomacy and tight meetings.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
