Oman, Iran Share Points in World Cup/ Asian Cup Qualifiers
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran drew with Oman 1-1 in Group D of the 2018 FIFA World Cup/2019 AFC Asian Cup joint-qualifying clash.
At the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Thursday, Saad Al Mukhaini put Oman 1-0 up in the 52nd minute. He found the back of the net at the far post following Ali Al Busaidi’s cross.
Iranian defender Jalal Hosseini equalized the match in the 70th minute after receiving a cross from Ehsan Hajisafi into the six-yard.
The two teams remain level on eight points at the top of the Group D standings with the three-time Asian champion holding pole position courtesy of a superior goal difference.
The group winners and four best runners-up (total 12 teams) will advance to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals and the final round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
