Iran, Spain Finalizing Nuclear Cooperation Drafts: AEOI Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced that the country has exchanged drafts on future nuclear cooperation with Spain in such fields as power plant construction, human resources, and simulation.

“Based on these drafts, which are getting finalized, they (the Spanish) will cooperate (with Iran) in nuclear power plant construction, building capacities, human resources training, simulation, and dealing with emergency conditions,” Kamalvandi said.

After the recent implementation of the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action-JCPOA), numerous grounds have been prepared for international cooperation, he noted, adding that Iran now has the option to work with many nuclear states.

Some of these countries started talks with Iran on nuclear cooperation before the JCPOA implementation, Kamalvandi said.

“Spain, which was one of these countries, sent a delegation to Iran and invited us (to Spain),” the AEOI spokesman said, adding that Iranian nuclear experts made a trip to the European country last month and visited the country’s facilities.

The drafts for mutual cooperation between Tehran and Madrid have been prepared, and will be finalized in a couple of months, he added.

Rising interests in nuclear cooperation with Iran follows the implementation of the nuclear deal on January 16.

The JCPOA has terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, reopened the doors of foreign investment to the country’s market, and prepared the ground for a much-anticipated economic boom.
