Russian Envoy Highlights Importance of Tehran-Moscow Cultural Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mikhail Shvydkoy, special envoy for International Cultural Cooperation to Russian President Vladimir Putin, underlined the need for development of suitable mechanisms for strengthening cultural ties between Tehran and Moscow.

In a Friday meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei, Shvydkoy explored different avenues for expansion of cultural relations between the two countries.

He further described Iran’s historical, cultural, and artistic capacities as vast and underscored the importance of reinforcement of joint cultural interests.

The Iranian envoy, for his part, called for further improvement of bilateral relations in diverse fields, including politics and economy.

Sanaei also expressed the hope for enhancement of cultural cooperation between Iran and Russia.

Back in September 2015, Iran’s Culture Minister Ali Jannati and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Sergei Naryshkin urged the need for further cultural cooperation between the two countries.

Naryshkin told Jannati in a meeting at the opening ceremony of the 28th Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF) that both countries have plenty of cultural commonalities which can serve as a basis for further cooperation.

Jannati, for his part, said that developing cultural relations between the countries alongside political cooperation is a priority for both countries.
