Vice Speaker Vows Vigorous Reaction to Iran’s Money Seizure by US

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Vice-Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard underlined that all Iranian branches of power will push hard to get the country’s money back, which the US has seized under an American court ruling.

Addressing a Sunday session of the parliament, Aboutorabi-Fard said the country’s parliament, administration and Judiciary will exploit their potential to restore the rights of the Iranian nation.

He also denounced the US seizure of the Central Bank of Iran’s assets as being in contravention of the international law.

Back in April, the US Supreme Court upheld the Congress and President Barack Obama’s actions to hold Iran financially responsible for the 1983 bombing that killed 241 Marines at their barracks in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The ruling allows the families of the Marines and victims of other attacks that courts have linked to Iran to seize some $2 billion in assets held in New York’s Citibank, belonging to the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), which has been blocked under US sanctions.

The move has drawn widespread condemnation from the Iranian officials, with President Hassan Rouhani pledging that his administration will spare no effort for reimbursement.
