Syrian Troops Repulse Attack by Terrorists around Aleppo

DAMASCUS(Tasnim) – Syrian military forces have repelled successive attacks by terrorist groups desperately trying to break the siege of Aleppo, sources at the battlefield said, noting that the militant groups have suffered heavy casualties.

A source at the scene of fighting in Aleppo told Tasnim that a second wave of attacks by the terrorist groups with the purpose of breaking the siege of the city in the east has been repulsed.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Syrian forces have crushed another new attack by the Jaish al-Fatah terrorist group in the western and southern outskirts of Aleppo.

Heavy clashes erupted on Tuesday, after the Syrian army detonated an underground tunnel used by the terrorists.

A source confirmed that more than 1,000 terrorists have been killed in the Aleppo clashes, with tens of their tanks and armored vehicles destroyed.

Syrian Army troops, backed by voluntary forces, continue to liberate more territories near the city of Aleppo in their large-scale military offensive to recapture the strategic northern city from terrorist groups.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
