Arrogant Powers Seeking to Revive Anti-Iran MKO Terror Group: Cleric
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami slammed certain Western and Middle Eastern countries for supporting the anti-Iran Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), saying they are seeking to revive the terrorist group.
“The global arrogant powers have hatched a new plot against the Iranian nation, which is reviving the dying body of the American (backed) MKO,” Ayatollah Khatami said in an address to a huge gathering of worshippers here in Tehran on Friday.
However, the plot is doomed to failure because the terrorist group will never be revived, the cleric added.
He further emphasized that what is heard these days about Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group’s heinous crimes resembles the terrorist acts ccommitted by the MKO in Iran back in 1980 and 1981.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khatami decried the Saudi regime’s participation in a recent gathering of the MKO terrorists in the French capital of Paris, saying that the MKO terrorists has reached a multi-billion-dollar deal with the Saudi government to spy for them.
A number of Saudi officials and supporters of MKO, including Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud, attended the gathering of the terrorists in Paris on July 9 and made anti-Tehran remarks.
The MKO - listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community - fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq and was given a camp by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
They fought on the side of Saddam during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-88). They were also involved in the bloody repression of Shiite Muslims in southern Iraq in 1991 and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.
The notorious group is also responsible for killing thousands of Iranian civilians and officials after the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.
More than 17,000 Iranians, many of them civilians, have been killed at the hands of the MKO in different acts of terrorism including bombings in public places, and targeted killings.
