US Reneged on Nuclear Deal as Usual: Iranian Adviser

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A special aide and adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker in international affairs slammed the US government for its failure to fulfill its commitments under the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Speaking in a Sunday meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Pang Sen, Hossein Amir Abdollahian highlighted Iran’s firm commitment to the JCPOA despite Washington’s failure to adhere to its commitments under the deal.

“Iran proved its honesty to everyone but the US reneged (on the agreement) as usual and like (it did) in the past,” he noted.

The Chinese diplomat, for his part, acknowledged that Iran has honestly fulfilled all of its undertakings mentioned in the JCPOA.

Sanctions against Iran, most of which are financial, should be lifted swiftly according to the nuclear agreement, Sen added.

While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) came into force in January, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord.

Back in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Americans have yet to fulfill what they were supposed to do as per the nuclear deal.

Iran still has problems in its banking transactions or in restoring its frozen assets, because Western countries and those involved in such processes are afraid of Americans, the Leader said at the time, criticizing the US for its moves to prevent Iran from taking advantage of the sanctions removal.
