Iran Finally Won A World Medal: Saeid Marouf

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian national volleyball team's captain, Mir Saeid Marouf, says that for them it was very important to win a world medal and finally took it.

Iran beat France 3-2 (38-36, 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 15-11) to earn the best ever finish at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Grand Champions Cup, after finishing fifth in 2009 and fourth in 2013.

“We knew it would be a tough match. All five sets were so close and both teams played great volleyball. It was very important to finish this competition with a victory and finally take a medal,” Marouf told fivb.org.

“I’m very happy and proud of my team. We did our best. It’s important for us."

"Iran had success in junior world tournaments but never in a senior one, so this makes it important. Our people followed our matches and enjoyed it, but without a medal there was something wrong, but now we’ve done that,” the captain added.
