Iran Determined to Settle Problems to Expedite Development of Chabahar Port

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian administration is seriously determined to settle the problems regarding the agreements inked between Tehran and New Delhi and to clinch a contract with Indian companies for the development of the Chabahar Port, an official said.

Secretary General of the Shipping Association of Iran Masoud Polmeh said Chabahar is Iran's only oceanic port and one that is close to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He added that the possibility of transporting cargo via this port to the Central Asian countries and Russia doubles the strategic significance of this port.

Creating necessary infrastructures at this port will help it play an important role in the economic processes of the country, he stated.

Polmeh added that the development of Chabahar Port requires the participation of all responsible departments and relevant organizations.

Regarding the contracts concluded with Indian companies on the development of the Chabahar Port, Polmeh said that the Indian side is required to make $220 million worth of investment, $85 million of which is related to the installation of pertinent parts and equipment.
