KRG Assures Iran of Border Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Affirming the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to the implementation of a security agreement between Tehran and Baghdad, the KRG’s interior minister gave an assurance that security will prevail along the common border.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Geneva on Thursday, KRG Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed Khalid said his government is determined to fully carry out the security agreement between Iran and Iraq.

Describing border security as a top priority for the autonomous region, Ahmed Khalid gave an assurance that the past security problems won’t recur in the border areas.

The Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s common border with Iran is under control and the soil of Iraq won’t be used to pose any threat against Iran, he underlined.

Amirabdollahian, for his part, lauded Iraq’s determination to implement the security agreement with Iran.

Stressing the need for the KRG to guarantee full security along the common border, the Iranian foreign minister said the frontiers should contribute to closer economic and trade relations between the two nations.
