Iran’s Steel Output Registers 39.9% Growth in January: WSA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran produced 2.6 million tons of steel in January 2024, showing a 39.9 percent hike compared to last year’s corresponding period, the World Steel Association (WSA) said in its latest report.

Accordingly, Iran ranked 9th among the top steel producers in the world.

The major steel manufacturers in the world produced more than 148 million tons of steel in January, registering a 1.6 percent hike compared to the same period last year, the report added.

Despite the decrease in the production of steel by major steel producers, steel production in countries including Iran, Russia, India, Turkey, South Korea and Japan increased in this period.

The report indicated that Iran and Turkey accounted for the largest steel production growth in January 2024, registering a 39.9 and 24.7 percent hike respectively, followed by India, South Korea, Russia and Japan, IRNA reported. 

According to the report, China, India and Japan were the top three steel producers in the world. China produced 77.2 million tons of crude steel in January 2024, registering a 6.9 percent decline compared to the same period last year.
