Iran’s FM Highlights His ‘Important’ Consultations with Syrian Officials

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said he held important talks with Syrian officials during his visit to Damascus.

“Yesterday I had important consultations and talks in Damascus with President Bashar al-Assad Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and the Syrian National Security advisor,” Amirabdollahian wrote in a message posted on X on Tuesday.

“Besides examining the regional and global developments, especially the significant issue of Palestine and Gaza, the agreements by the presidents of both countries were studied, and as a result, the aspects of promoting bilateral ties, including economic relations, were assessed as satisfactory and progressing.

“In addition, we inaugurated the new building of the consular section of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in Damascus along with Mr. Faisal Mekdad and its services were formally launched.

“Meanwhile, my counterpart and I visited in the hospital a young diplomat from the Syrian Foreign Ministry who unfortunately sustained serious injuries and lost one of his legs during the recent terrorist attack by the Zionist regime on our country's embassy in Damascus.

“I felt proud and honored to meet our country’s diplomats, representatives of Iranian institutions, and Iranian military advisors for anti-terrorism in Damascus and their families at the embassy, who – despite the hardships of the mission – are brimming with high spirits, commitment and sense of responsibility.”
