Islamic Solidarity Games Kick Off in Indonesia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, is hosting the Islamic Solidarity Games participated by a large number of athletes from Islamic states.

The Islamic Solidarity Games kicked off in Indonesia on Sunday, September 22, in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The event, which will continue until October 1, is expected to draw thousands of visitors who will follow games between athletes from 44 countries plus observer countries representatives.

Hosted by Palembang, South Sumatra, in Indonesia, the event features 13 different sports including, athletics, basketball, equestrian, fencing, football, handball, karate, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting.

A total 1,530 medal will be awarded to winners among 3,200 athletes and officials, media reports said.

The organizing body for the event said that a special place of worship will be adjusted to match the number of participants.

Along with the mosques for the athletes and participants, organizers will also prepare a place of worship for the sports fans who will attend the games.

Held for the third time, the Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event which involves elite athletes of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The Islamic Solidarity Games Federation (ISSF) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Islamic Solidarity Games.
