Italian Ex-PM Berlusconi Accused of Bribing Senator

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been ordered to stand trial for bribing a senator.

Prosecutors say Berlusconi bribed Sergio De Gregorio, to defect as part of an attempt to bring down the government in 2006.

De Gregorio is a former senator in the Italy of Values party. The bribe involves 3 million euros. The trial will start next year on February 11, CCTV reported.

77-year-old Berlusconi has been embroiled in a number of trials. A court in Milan has banned him from holding public offices for two years, following his conviction for tax fraud in August. The ban has still to be voted on in the parliament.
