Spain’s Football Superstar Meets Heads of Iranian Football Federation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former football player of the Spanish national team and Real Madrid Michel Salgado met and conferred with the Head of the Iranian Football Federation Ali Kaffashian and its Secretary Mahdi Mohammad Nabi in Tehran on Saturday.

Salgado who arrived in Iran earlier Saturday morning met with the Iranian football officials around noon time at the Iranian Football Federation.

The sides talked about cooperation between Iran and Spain in the field of football academies for junior and youth teams and agreed to set up relations between the footbal federations of both countries.

Salgado who had been invited to attend the Science and Football conference in Tehran on Wednesday did not attend the event.

It was earlier reported that the top Spanish football player was coming to Iran for talks with the Iranian Football Federation that could lead to holding a friendly between the Iranian and Spanish national football teams prior to the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

An informed source in the Iranian Football Federation told Tasnim that if the conditions are met, Iran and Spain would play the friendly before the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

The Science and Football Conference 2013 was attended by the FIFA President Sepp Blatter and the AFC Chief Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa among others.
