Iran’s Zarif, Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with Venezuela’s Deputy Foreign Minister Xoan Noya Alarcón on Sunday.

In their meeting in Tehran, Zarif and Alarcón conferred on the latest developments in bilateral ties as well as major issues concerning Latin America.

Iran’s foreign minister highlighted the broad relations between Tehran and Caracas and underlined the need for further expansion of bilateral ties.

Zarif further pointed to the upcoming session of Iran-Venezuela Joint Economic Commission, and stressed the need for continued economic, trade and industrial cooperation between the two countries.

Alarcón, for his part, highlighted the extensive bilateral relations in different fields and described a recent visit to Caracas by his Iranian counterpart as successful.

He also appreciated the Islamic Republic’s stances on the recent developments in Venezuela.

Amid recent unrest in Venezuela, Iran has underlined its support for the Venezuelan government and condemned violent acts and vandalism of public property in the Latin American country.

Anti-government demonstrators have frequently taken to the streets of Caracas and committed acts of violence in recent days.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has accused the United States of backing the opposition to launch a coup d’état in the South American country.
