Italian Parliamentary Delegation Meets Former FM Velayati

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A parliamentary delegation from Italy held a meeting with Director of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati in Tehran on Saturday.

The visiting Italian team, headed by Ettore Rosato, discussed a range of issues with Velayati in a meeting at the office of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council earlier in the morning.

During the meeting, Velayati, who is also a senior adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, alluded to the bilateral relations between Tehran and Rome, and said, “The parliamentary ties will pave the way for the (ties between) governments.”

The visit comes at the invitation of the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

Earlier on January 3, an Italian parliamentary delegation, led by Chairman of Italian Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee Pier Ferdinando Casini, paid a three-day visit to the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Iranian parliament has in recent months intensified measures to strengthen ties with parliaments of the other countries, following President Hassan Rouhani’s announcement that his administration will adopt the policy of constructive interaction with the world.

Delegations representing the European Parliament (EP), Italy, South Korea and many others have paid official visits to the Islamic Republic over the past few months.
