Rouhani Congratulates Narendra Modi on Becoming India’s Premier

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday congratulated Narendra Modi on being sworn-in as India’s new prime minister.

In his message, Rouhani felicitated the Indian nation and its new prime minister on the massive participation of people in the country’s parliamentary elections and the landslide victory of Narendra Modi in the polls.

“Definitely, your election, which was marked by the massive turnout of people from all walks of life, signifies the full confidence of the Indian people in your developmental and wise policies,” the Iranian president said.

The Iranian chief executive further expressed the confidence that during Modi’s term in office, all-out ties between Iran and India will expand based on the two nations’ interests.

Modi led India's opposition Bharatiya Janata Party to a landslide victory in the recent national elections.

The son of a tea-stall owner, Modi and his party secured the biggest majority in 30 years at the election, trouncing the Congress on a promise of reviving manufacturing and investment to create millions of jobs.

He was sworn in on Monday as India’s 15th Prime Minister.
