Turkmen Delegations Look for Investment Opportunities in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A number of delegations from Turkmenistan have recently visited Iran looking for investment opportunities, an oil ministry official said.

Addressing a forum on coordinating the export of commodities and technical and engineering services to Turkmenistan on Monday, Mohammad Taqi Amanpour, an Iranian Oil Ministry adviser, said the Turkmen delegations have paid visits to 30 factories in Iran with the aim of investment in different economic fields.

He said Iran is a haven for investment and Turkmens, knowing this well, have entered Iran’s economic arena.

Amanpour added that Iranian companies are also working to have a stronger presence in Turkmenistan’s market.

According to the official, Iranian firms pursue short-term, mid-term and long-term opportunities in the Central Asian country.

Iran is reportedly Turkmenistan’s second largest trade partner after Russia.

The Islamic Republic exports machinery, construction materials, sedans, buses, food stuff, agricultural and petrochemical products, electrical products and home appliances to Turkmenistan, and imports natural gas, electricity, textiles and agricultural products from its northern neighbor.

Iran and Turkmenistan have had official diplomatic relations since Turkmenistan's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Iran was the first nation to recognize Turkmenistan as an independent country.

The two countries have maintained good relations ever since and have cooperated in the economic, infrastructure and energy sectors.
