Iran Keen to Develop Scientific Ties with Tajikistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s president stressed his government’s willingness to boost scientific and academic relations with Tajikistan.

In a Wednesday meeting with Tajikistan’s prime minister in Dushanbe, President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran is prepared to strengthen academic ties with Dushanbe, especially in technical and engineering fields.

Rouhani added that the agreements signed during his visit to the Central Asian country could pave way for the expansion of cultural, economic and scientific ties between the two countries.

The Iranian chief executive also highlighted his administration’s support for Iranian companies’ cooperation with neighboring countries, especially Tajikistan.

He further said that Tehran and Dushanbe are like allies in all regional and global issues.

Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Qahir Rasoulzadeh, for his part, said the Tajik nation will never forget the Islamic Republic of Iran’s favors.

He added that the projects implemented by Iran in Tajikistan play a major role in the development of the Central Asian country.

President Rouhani arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday to discuss bilateral ties with Tajik officials and also take part in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The SCO is an intergovernmental organization that was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran, along with four other countries, holds observer status in the organization.
