Countering ISIL Needs Firm Actions Not Tactical Methods: Iran Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s parliament speaker said tough action, not a propaganda campaign, is needed in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group.

The only way to wipe the region off the terrorist groups is a fighting a serious and firm battle, not launching tactical methods and propaganda techniques, Ali Larijani said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Monday.

He also reiterated that the three-year crisis in Syria would be resolved only through political means.

The visiting Syrian diplomat, for his part, praised Iran for adopting a “correct and principled” approach toward the crisis in the Arab country.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.

The US and its regional allies have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria for more than three years.

An estimated 200,000 people have been killed in over three years of fighting in the war-ridden country, according to the United Nations.
