Iran’s Vice-President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari on Tuesday reaffirmed President Rouhani’s invitation to the Afghan head of state to visit Tehran, and said that the trip is to be made in the near future.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Ashraf Ghani as part of his one-day visit to the Afghan capital of Kabul.

Shariatmadari also expressed his pleasure with the developing relations between the two countries, and voiced Iran’s willingness to cooperate with Afghanistan in scientific, academic, tourism, health, technical, and engineering fields.

Heading a delegation, the Iranian VP visited Afghanistan in an effort to bolster the ties between the two neighboring countries.

Earlier in January, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had also visited Afghanistan, a country to which he said Iran attaches great significance.

“In a bid to have a serious share in the development of Afghanistan, a very significant opportunity is now before us,” Zarif had announced in Kabul.
