Iran's DM Due in Turkey

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan will leave for Turkey, on Thursday, to attend a memorial ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of Gallipoli Campaign.

Representing his country at the memorial ceremony, Dehqan is scheduled to take part in the Peace Summit due to be held in the Turkish town of Canakkale with representatives of over 100 countries in attendance.

He will also hold meetings with Turkish officials to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues.

Gallipoli Campaign (also known as the Dardanelles Campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Çanakkale) was one of the greatest Ottoman victories during the World War I.

In Turkey, it is regarded as a defining moment in the nation's history: a final surge in the defense of the motherland as the Ottoman Empire crumbled.

The struggle formed the basis for the Turkish War of Independence and the declaration of the Republic of Turkey eight years later under Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who first rose to prominence as a commander at Gallipoli.
