Asian Fencing Championships: Iran’s Abedini Wins Bronze

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mojtaba Abedini from Iran claimed a bronze medal in the men's sabre of the Asian Fencing Championships (AFC) on Saturday.

Junghwan KIM and Bongil Gu both from South Korea finshed in the first and second places, respectievly.

A total of 21 Iranian fencers have participted in all six weapons (Men’s Epee, Women’s Epee, Men’s Foil, Women’s Foil, Men’s Sabre, Women’s Sabre).

The competition got underway in Singapore.

One year before the Olympics Rio 2016, the AFC is regarded as the zonal competition for Olympic qualification in Asia and Oceania.

It is also a competition which offers double points in the FIE world rankings.

The AFC first started in 1989 in Beijing China, and have been held biannually since 1991, and annually since 2007.
