Russia Begins Work on Second Unit at Iran’s Bushehr Power Plant: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) said that preparation work for the construction of a second unit at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant has begun.

Sergei kirienko said on Friday that the project is moving forward as scheduled.

"Work has already begun. Now design is underway, agreeing of the platform. There is a schedule for this work, and preparations are going in strict accordance with this schedule. We are pleased by our partners' work," Kirienko said at the Eastern Economic Forum, Sputnik News reported.

The Russian-Iranian agreement on the civil use of nuclear energy, followed by a deal to construct Iran's first nuclear power plant, dates from 1992.

In 2014, Iran and Russia agreed to building two new nuclear reactors on the Bushehr site, starting in the fall of 2015.
