Israeli Forces Fire Tear Gas at Palestinian Protesters, Several Suffocated
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Several Palestinians suffocated on Monday after Israeli soldiers fired teargas canisters towards demonstrators who rallied in Bethlehem, in central West Bank to protest Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Several of the Palestinians who rallied in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque suffocated due to the inhalation of tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers on Monday during clashes that broke out in Bethlehem, security sources told Palestine News and Information Agency, WAFA.
Tensions have been growing across the West Bank and Jerusalem (al-Quds) in recent days after provocative raids by Israeli forces on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Israelis have been enforcing a unilateral temporal division on the mosque, banning Palestinians from entering the compound during specific hours, while settlers are provided police escort to enter the Islamic holy site.
Scores of unarmed and peaceful Palestinian have either been killed or seriously injured as a result of Israel’s constant use of tear gas against Palestinians.
Tear gas is a chemical irritant that severely affects the eyes, respiratory system and mucous membranes of the nose and throat. If fired directly at demonstrators, their impact can result in severe injuries and even death.
