Slovenian President to Visit Iran in Near Future

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Viktor Erjavec announced in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart that the Balkan country’s president will pay an official visit to the Iranian capital soon.

In a Tuesday meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Erjavec said President Borut Pahor will travel to Tehran in the near future to meet with high-ranking Iranian officials.

Erjavec also announced that Ljubljana intends to reopen its embassy in Tehran, which had been shut down in March 2013 in a bid to cut expenses.

Back in 2013, in response to the difficult financial and economic situation in Slovenia, the European country’s government had decided to shrink its diplomatic network as part of general austerity policies.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Slovenian foreign minister referred to growing interest in investing in Iran’s markets and said Slovenia will activate the country’s Chamber of Commerce in Tehran.

The two sides also underscored the need for using parliamentary ties and exchanging political, parliamentary, and commercial delegations to expand the traditional bonds between the two countries.

The meeting came against the backdrop of a new wave of renewed interest in ties with Iran in various areas, including in economic fields, after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

The comprehensive nuclear deal would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
